42 mandatory PPE standards: procurement should cover equipment beyond garments

SAMR's 42 mandatory PPE standards cover multiple protection categories. Energy-workwear projects that only name garments can miss interfaces and maintenance requirements for hands, feet, head/face, respiratory, or fall protection.

The public record notes: The information was released in September 2025. The standards cover eye/face, hearing, respiratory, head, hand, foot, clothing, and fall protection. Applicable standards for a project must still be determined by job hazard and current edition.

This does not mean buying more categories at once; it means checking after risk identification whether the equipment combination is complete, compatible, and maintainable. Garment specifications can add columns for related PPE and responsibility interfaces.
