IEC 61482-2:2018 scope: an arc rating is not a complete site-safety plan

IEC lists IEC 61482-2:2018, Protective clothing against the thermal hazards of an electric arc. It provides a scope for discussing arc-thermal clothing, but it does not replace work permits, equipment state, isolation, or site risk controls.

The public record notes: The IEC page shows the edition was published on 28 May 2018. The standard concerns protective clothing against thermal hazards of an electric arc. A standards page does not by itself prove that a garment fits a particular site task.

Reducing an arc rating to a procurement label can hide task voltage, possible incident energy, human exposure, layering, and garment condition. A safer approach makes risk assessment, applicable requirements, and garment evidence traceable in one review sheet.
